Aime Wichtendahl is the first openly transgender elected official in Iowa

Biography

Aime Wichtendahl became Iowa’s first openly transgender elected official in 2015 by winning a seat on the Hiawatha City Council. She ran a campaign that was dedicated to lowering property taxes, small business development, and adoption of energy efficient and green technologies.

Delivering on her campaign promises, Aime successfully lowered the tax levy rate, raised the county minimum wage, and passed a resolution in support of the Paris Climate Agreement.
