Tennessee is one of just 4 states in the country that have never elected an openly LGBTQ state legislator
Brandon Thomas is running to represent Tennessee’s House District 49. He graduated from Middle Tennessee State University with a bachelors in Political Science, and has been an advocate for marginalized communities since high school. As a student government senator, he worked to protect transgender students on campus and inspired the university’s president to enshrine that protection into university-wide policy. He has continued to advocate for LGBTQ Tennesseans, reproductive freedom, workers’ rights, and access to quality, affordable healthcare for all his neighbors.
When elected, he will become one of the first LGBTQ members of the Tennessee State Legislature. As someone who has lived paycheck to paycheck, he will bring a unique perspective to the legislature, understanding that working people don’t care about their neighbors’ gender identity or sexual orientation as much as they care about how they’re going to be able to support themselves and their families. He knows that rather than focusing on the most flashy, newsworthy topics, legislators need to work on finding real solutions for real problems. He looks forward to celebrating his win on election night with his husband, Michael, their son, Ezra, and their pug, Coco.
