Florencio will continue to be a voice for equality in California!
Florencio Briones has served on the El Monte Union High School District Board of Trustees since 2017. He is the first openly gay man to serve on the board. Prior to being elected, Florencio was a classified school employee working in the Information Technology field. In 2018, Los Angeles County Supervisor Hilda Solis hired Florencio as a Deputy Supervisor and LGBTQ Liaison to the First District, where he worked on housing and homelessness, and environmental justice policy in the San Gabriel Valley. Additionally, he served on the San Gabriel Council of Governments Homelessness Committee and was the Supervisor’s delegate to the governing board. As a Trustee, Florencio has focused on educational equity, and ensuring the mental health needs of students in the 8,600-student school district are met. During his tenure on the board, Florencio served as Board President for two consecutive years and has served as a delegate to the California School Boards Association delegate assembly. Florencio is a graduate of Pasadena City College, and a student at California Polytechnic University, Pomona.
