Carlton will be the first openly LGBTQ elected official in Upper Merion
Carlton was born and raised in Upper Merion Township by a single mother who recognized the value of a safe environment for her children, in part provided the Parks and Recreation Department and the Wolfson Memorial Library. It was that foundation that instilled in him the power of a strong community.
After graduation from Upper Merion Area High School in 2001, Carlton attended American University in Washington, DC, and there found his passion for public service and public policy.
Years later it would be that calling to give back that led him to return to Upper Merion.
Today, he works for Montgomery County, and through that work, has a deeper appreciation for and understanding of the importance of the services that local government can provide.
