Will be an essential voice for equality on the DC City Council!
By 2nd grade, Allister had completed more school than his father did. Though Allister’s father couldn’t teach Allister how to read, he connected Allister to the people who could. Allister is running for the Ward 2 seat on the DC State Board of Education in order to connect every student to the holistic support systems that his father worked relentlessly to provide him access to.
Allister has studied education best-practices as a Visiting Researcher at UNESCO’s Institute for Lifelong Learning and as a Robert Bosch Stiftung Fellow at the Global Public Policy Institute. From 2014 to 2019, Allister was the Executive Director of Libraries Without Borders, which developed education programs and education partnerships in contexts ranging from refugee camps in the Middle East to demobilization zones in Colombia. In the US, he created the “Wash and Learn Initiative,” extending public library services to coin laundromat waiting rooms from Baltimore to Oakland.
Allister is a board member at Bibliothèques Sans Frontières, and is on the advisory boards of the Library of Congress Literacy Awards, EveryLibrary, and the Future Society. Allister holds a Master’s in Public Policy from the Harvard Kennedy School, where he was elected President of the Student Government, and a B.A. in History (summa cum laude) from Tufts University. Allister was on the International Literacy Association’s “30 Under 30” List in 2019.
