Chris is a key LGBTQ leader on the 5th largest county board of supervisors in Iowa
Chris Schwartz, chairperson of the Black Hawk County Board of Supervisors is currently in his first term in office. Schwartz is a proven leader with a background in community organizing around social justice issues. During his first term in office, he has led advancements in the areas of mental health, renewable energy, water quality, conservation, transparency, workers rights, veterans services, infrastructure, and LGBTQ healthcare. He continues to be a dynamic leader in his community who is both responsive and accessible to his constituents.
In addition to serving on the Board of Supervisors, Schwartz is currently the state director of Americans of Democratic Action Iowa, a progressive advocacy organization first founded by Eleanor Roosevelt in 1947. He also serves as a founding board member of Cedar Valley Pridefest and as a board member for the North East Iowa Food Bank, Operation Threshold, Friends of Iowa CASA, NE Iowa Hazmat Response, The Middle Cedar River and Upper Cedar River Watershed Management Authorities, BHC Renewable Energy Committee, the Iowa Citizen Action Network, and Why Courts Matter Iowa. Schwartz is also the current President of the National Association of Counties LGBTQ Leaders and Alleys.
When he is not busy with public service, Schwartz can be found playing bass in his jazz quartet False Indigo with his fiancee and singer Logun Buckley, or hosting events and fundraisers in their historic home for non-profits and progressive causes.
