Cole Buerger

Colorado House of Representatives

Cole will be the first out LGBTQ state legislator elected from a rural district in Colorado!

Cole Buerger is a fifth generation Coloradan running to represent every resident of District 57. Like many in the district, he grew up in an agricultural family, raising cattle and quarter horses. He and his siblings showed 4-H animals at the Garfield County Fair. After high school, he went east for college and earned an undergraduate degree in International Affairs from George Washington University in Washington, D.C. and a Master’s Degree in Public Policy from the University of Chicago.

A communications and strategy consultant specializing in executive team projects and policy efforts, he has spent the past decade managing a diverse portfolio of program planning, writing, and social impact projects for a range of clients in the public, private, and nonprofit sectors. Cole dedicated his early career to strengthening democracy around the world, with a focus on supporting dissident movements in closed societies, combatting corruption, and advocating for the rule of law.

Public service runs in his family. His dad volunteered at the National Western Stock Show and his mom was a 4-H leader and mentor to many young people in Garfield County. His grandmother served as the mayor of Kremmling for many years, dedicating her life to fighting for her community. Last but not least, his partner Mitchell was in ROTC at CU Boulder and served in the Army.

His candidacy is grounded in the belief that Western Colorado deserves a leader who will fight for policies that address the needs of our district, not one-size-fits-all policies that reflect the needs of far- away cities or special interests. He is deeply committed to ensuring the people of Colorado State House District 57 and its beautiful landscapes and heritage continue to have a bright future.

He currently lives in Glenwood Springs with his partner Mitchell and a coonhound named Ellie Mae.
