Cyrus will be an important voice for LGBTQ+ representation on the Newton City Council!

Biography

Cyrus Dahmubed is an architectural and urban designer, educator, and community builder running for City Councilor At-Large from Ward 4 in Newton, MA. Cyrus studied architectural history and design at Harvard, Columbia, and Northeastern and for the last decade of his career has worked to build community within the design world and between it and the people it serves. He has also worked to advance the role of design as a service to community that can help achieve freedom, justice, and liberation. He’s worked with organizations like The Louis D. Brown Peace Institute, The Possible Zone, BosNOMA, Out in Design, and the Boston Children’s Chorus to help advance this mission, and has taught studio and seminars, including in professional practice and community engagement, at Wentworth Institute of Technology (WIT), Boston Architectural College (BAC), and MassArt. He has presented his research on how queer spaces offer a framework for inclusive design more broadly at the national level. Cyrus is running to combat the intertwined affordability, equity, and climate crises by working to create a more affordable, sustainable, and welcoming Newton where growth can be used to support schools, students, and seniors: a Newton we can all love, and all afford.
