Daneya Esgar has been a Colorado State Representative since 2015. She is the first openly LGBTQ person to run for office from her hometown.
A graduate of Pueblo City Schools and Colorado State University-Pueblo, Daneya has worked her entire career to better her community; whether advocating for Southern Colorado news as a television news producer, working with first-generation university students, or as a community organizer focusing on the LGBTQ community, communities of poverty and communities of color in Pueblo.
Daneya has taken her leadership to the capitol, serving as House Democratic Caucus Chair and on four committees: Capital Development; Health, Insurance, and Environment; Agriculture, Livestock, and Natural Resources; and Transportation and Energy. She is the Co-Chair of the LGBTQ Caucus and is well known for her ambitious and bipartisan approach. In four years, she has successfully passed nearly 30 bipartisan bills.
