Daniel Hernandez

Arizona House of Representatives, District 2

Daniel is one of only five openly LGBTQ individuals in the Arizona State House

Daniel Hernandez, Jr., is a native Arizonan, and Member of the Arizona State Legislature representing South Tucson, Sahuarita, Green Valley, and Santa Cruz County. He is a Co-Founder of the LGBT Caucus. He is known nationally for his work on January 8th to provide first aid to Congresswoman Gabby Giffords after she and 18 others were shot.

Daniel has been a long time advocate for the LGBTQ community and helped lead the repeal of the harmful “No Promo Homo” law in Arizona that prohibited talking about the LGBTQ Community. He also led the fight to defeat an anti-trans athlete bill in the most recent legislative session. With his bi-partisan approach, Daniel was able to defeat funding for Crisis Pregnancy Centers and also was awarded the 2019 Women’s healthcare champion.

He faces a difficult reelection in 2020 in a contested four-way primary.
