Dave will be the only openly LGBTQ sheriff in California.
Dave Myers has worked in law enforcement for 34 years. He is currently a Commander with the Sheriff’s Department. He started out as a police officer with the Carlsbad Police Department, and then worked his way up the ranks at the Sheriff’s Department from a patrol Deputy to Commander.
Dave’s been tasked with handling almost every part of the Sheriff’s Department, including serving as a beat patrol deputy, a jails deputy, a homicide detective, a COPPS (Community Oriented Policing & Problem Solving), a Lieutenant for the Border Crime Suppression Team and the Communications Center.
As Commander, he has managed 24 patrol stations and substations encompassing all of San Diego County. In addition, he’s run the Special Investigations Division, which included homicide, narcotics, terrorism, and gangs. He has also supervised the Courts Division, which is responsible for security at all Superior Court facilities. He is currently assigned to special projects at the Sheriff’s Department.
For the past fifteen years, he has served as the elected public safety trustee on the San Diego County Employees’ Retirement Association, and was twice elected board Chairman.
Importance of Candidacy:
- Dave will be the only openly LGBTQ sheriff in California.
- He will be the first openly LGBTQ sheriff of San Diego County.
