David Campos

California State Assembly

David is running to bring back LGBTQ representation to a seat that has historically been held by a member of the LGBTQ community!

David is an out gay man who was born in Guatemala. His parents brought him to this country undocumented, at the age of 14. He came here carrying one of his little sisters on his back in search of the American Dream. David was a Dreamer before the concept existed.
David dedicated his life to public service. He served as a San Francisco Deputy City Attorney, eventually serving as the General Counsel for the San Francisco Public School System, where he oversaw implementation of a federal Consent Decree to ensure equal opportunity for students of color in SFUSD. He also served as a San Francisco Police Commissioner, where he worked to hold accountable police officers who engaged in misconduct.
David was elected to represent District 9 on the San Francisco Board of Supervisors. After terming out, he was hired as Deputy County Executive for the County of Santa Clara, where he managed and created departments dedicated to immigrant relations, gender equity, and cultural competence. David also oversaw the County’s outreach, education and communications throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.
Recently, David served as San Francisco District Attorney Chesa Boudin’s Chief of Staff. In that role, he oversaw the day-to-day operations of the office, before taking leave during this final stretch of the campaign.
David’s running for this seat because his broad, diverse and extensive professional experiences will make him an effective and reliable legislator in Sacramento.
