Biography

Deborah Mell was born and raised in the community she now has the honor of serving. After high school, she attend Cornell College and then later earned my culinary degree from the California Culinary Academy. Upon graduation, she spent time working in various aspects of the service industry until she ran and won a seat in the Illinois General Assembly as a state representative (40 th District). Alderman Mell was elected alderman of the 33rd Ward in 2015. Deb has a strong and independent voting record in both Springfield and in the Chicago City Council. All throughout her career, she has been a reliable advocate for a wide range of progressive causes and a leader in the fight for marriage equality in the State of Illinois.
