Donette Smith

Town Council member

Donette will be the only openly gay Newburgh town council member!

Donette Smith is a Democrat running for Newburgh Town Council. She has
lived in the Town for more than 17 years and has been actively involved in
community affairs that support the health and safety of our residents, and that
preserve the beauty of our Town. A few examples include having taken part in
successful efforts to prevent changes to zoned residential areas, as well as openly
opposing the Danskammer power plant which harms our environment.
Donette is a licensed clinical social worker for more than 20
years, as well as being a Board Member of Keep It Moving, a local Opioid
Overdose Prevention Program, and an active member of the Town of Newburgh
Democratic Committee. Donette was propelled into community outreach following the
death of her son Zane to an opioid overdose, and since then she has been involved
with local organizations such as We are Newburgh, as well as being a presence in
town board, planning board, and zoning board meetings dealing with local
community affairs in the town.
Donette brings strong experience and energy to the Town Board. She understands the issues that we face and would like to hear your concerns. Please feel free to contact Donette with any questions or concerns you would like to share. Creating these changes will
take your support and if you would like to make a campaign contribution visit:
