Doug would bring important representation to the Virginia House of Delegates!
Doug Ward is excited to be a Democratic candidate for the House of Delegates from the 18th District. He is 71 years old, living in Rappahannock County with his husband of 22 years, Rev. Earl Johnson.
After college he joined the Peace Corps, where he served for three years teaching junior high school in a small village in Liberia, West Africa. This experience convinced him that he wanted to pursue a career helping others, and decided to go to medical school.
For the last 34 years Doug has been in private practice in Washington, DC, specializing in the treatment of HIV/AIDS. He has a large practice, and is widely recognized as one of the leading experts in this field. For obvious reasons he is concerned with issues of healthcare. The expansion of Medicaid in 2019 provided healthcare to more than 400,000 Virginians. He strongly supports raising the minimum wage to provide a living wage to all Virginians.
