Biography

Judge Eric Haner has been a member of the judiciary since 2013 when he was originally appointed by then Gov. Steve Beshear as a District Court Judge, and went on to successfully win his contested election in 2014. At that time, Judge Haner was the first out gay male on the bench serving Jefferson County (Louisville), Kentucky. In 2018, Judge Haner ran unopposed for re-election to District Court, and in 2021, Gov. Andy Beshear appointed Judge Haner to fill a vacancy in Division 1 of Circuit Court, which is Kentucky’s general jurisdiction trial court. Judge Haner was in private practice for nearly 20 years as a trial attorney before becoming a Judge, and has been an active member of Louisville’s LGBTQ community for his entire adult life.
