Biography

Francena Amparo is a passionate community activist and dedicated civil servant. Francena was elected to the Dutchess County Legislature in 2011 and ascended to the role of Assistant Minority Leader in 2016 and has served a total of four terms in the Dutchess County Legislature. Francena describes herself as”driven to help underserved people fight injustice.”

Francena was raised in the Bronx where she became interested in politics at a young age. She was always captivated by the idea that the powers of government can be harnessed for good. Francena studied to become a paralegal at SUNY Westchester Community College. Francena then went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Legal studies from SUNY Purchase.

Francena relocated to the Hudson Valley over a decade ago where she serves as President of her homeowners association. Ms. Amparo has spent close to twenty years working in the legal field and currently works at a major law firm.

Francena prides herself on using her elected office to represent her constituents and to fulfill her commitment to improving the lives of others through direct outreach, education and advocacy. A true public servant and civic activist, Francena is also an active member of the New York Democratic Lawyers Council; the National Association of Latino Elected Officials; Local Progress; the Wappingers Falls Business and Professional Association; and the Wappingers Historical Society.
