Benjamin Harman

City Councilor At-Large, Ward 4

Ben will be an important voice for equality on the Newburyport City Council!

Biography

Ben is running for an At-Large seat on the Newburyport City Council to expand the collaborative, community-first approach he has brought to Ward 4 during his first term. Since being elected in 2023, Ben has worked to make city government more inclusive, responsive, and effective. He co-sponsored the ordinance that legalized Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) to expand housing options for seniors and working families and co-authored a resolution affirming Newburyport’s support for immigrant communities while calling for federal accountability in enforcement practices. He also championed the successful citywide vote to build a recreation center, creating a safe and affordable space for kids, families, and residents of all ages.

A longtime advocate for marginalized communities, Ben serves as Co-Chair of the Board at Point Foundation, the nation’s largest LGBTQ+ and ally scholarship organization. He’s a visible supporter of Newburyport Pride and an active participant in local events that celebrate and uplift the community. Ben is running At-Large to bring people together—because Newburyport is at its best when everyone has a voice, and when local government focuses less on dysfunction and more on getting things done. His top priorities include safety, sustainability, and affordability for all residents.
