Biography

Born and raised in Rowland Heights, Kevin is a proud International Baccalaureate (I.B.) graduate of John A. Rowland High School, one of the two high schools in the Walnut Valley Water District (WVWD), Division IV. He graduated from the University of California, Berkeley with a double major in Physics and Astrophysics. Kevin holds a Master’s degree in Astronomy from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), and is currently a Ph.D. Candidate in Astronomy and Astrophysics at UCLA. He has had the privilege of serving as an adjunct professor in the Earth Science Department at Santa Monica College and the Natural Sciences Division at El Camino College. He currently teaches in the Physical Sciences and Career Education Division at Moorpark College.

Kevin is a member of the Astronomy and Astrophysics Outlist, a group that strongly believes that there is no place for discrimination based on sexual orientation/preference or gender identity/expression. Its mission is to actively maintain and promote a safe, accepting and supportive environment in all our work places. He is also active in the LGBTQIA+ Astronomy Graduate Student Association and the Diversitea Coalition at UCLA, analyzing the intersection of marginalized identities including gender, ethnicity, race, and sexual orientation. Kevin is also the former Captain of Taste the Rainbow, a Southern California-based exhibition dance team committed to creating a safe space for queer-identifying artists and dancers.
