Jalen McKee-Rodriguez

San Antonio City Council, District 2

Jalen will be the first out gay Black man elected in Texas!

Jalen McKee-Rodriguez is a 25 year old high school math teacher, LGBTQ+ activist, and a former board member for Stonewall Democrats of San Antonio running for City Council District 2 in San Antonio, TX. The son of two veterans, he was raised to value kindness, a strong work ethic, and the value of his word. In 2010, he got his first job as a classroom cleaner under the supervision of head custodian Mr. Raymond, and has since served in a number of roles: as a part-time sales associate in retail, a full-time volunteer as a tutor and mentor with City Year, a Communications Assistant, where he captioned phone calls for the hard-of-hearing, Director of Communications for the District 2 office, and, most recently, three years as a high school math teacher. Jalen believes working class people deserve working class representation, not someone who caves to the interests of developers, big businesses, and special interests.

Jalen holds a degree in Communication from the University of Texas at San Antonio, where he will also graduate in the Summer of 2021 with his Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies.

If elected, Jalen would be the first openly-gay man elected in San Antonio, and the first openly-gay Black man elected in the state of Texas.
