James will be the only openly LGBTQ member of the Lincoln City Council
James Michael Bowers is lifelong resident of Northeast Lincoln, and a graduate of Northeast High. He is a social worker at Dawes Middle School, and a small business owner in Havelock.
For James, fighting for Northeast Lincoln means fighting for working families. As the son of a single mom, he knows what it’s like to struggle to make ends meet. .
Currently, James is a social worker at Dawes Middle School, and works as a therapist through the private practice he founded. Before Dawes, James worked at the Child Guidance Center, Bryan Health, and with the Nebraska Children and Families Foundation, where he developed coalitions and strategies to improve Nebraska’s foster care system
James Michael Bowers has been active in the community since he was a teenager. As current Vice President for the Lincoln-Lancaster County Board of Health, he works with city and county partners to advocate for a healthier Lincoln. Previously, he has served on the Board of Directors for the Fresh Start Home, a shelter empowering women experiencing homelessness. James served two terms as the Board President for the Northeast Family Center, where he began volunteering in high school.
James Michael Bowers is running so he can keep working hard for the community that has been such an important part of his life.
