Jessica will be the first openly LGBTQ person elected to the Scranton City Council
Dr. Jessica Rothchild lives in Scranton with her wife and their two dogs. She grew up in New Jersey and came to Pennsylvania to attend the University of Scranton, where she received both her Bachelor’s of Exercise Science and Doctor of Physical Therapy degrees. Jessica works as a physical therapist in the outpatient setting. She has been a dedicated volunteer, activist, and community leader throughout her time in Scranton. While in college, Jessica was the Founder and President of the University of Scranton’s first student LGBTQ organization. This led her to joining the board of Equality Pennsylvania, which she served as Board President of for three years. Jessica was recently a board member of the Victory Fund Campaign Board. She is a commissioner on the Pennsylvania Commission for Women and the Scranton Human Relations Commission. In May 2018, she was elected to serve as a Democratic State Committeeperson and became Secretary of the LGBT Caucus for the State Democratic Party.
Jessica is running for Scranton City Council because she wants to make local government more transparent and accessible. She plans on continuing the progress that has been made by retaining new graduates from local schools, attracting young professionals, lifting up local businesses, and improving Scranton neighborhoods. She hopes to add diversity to the council with a new voice and a new vision for Scranton.
