Jessica will be the first openly LGBTQ member of the Etna Borough Council
Jessica Semler is running for Etna Borough Council, a municipality outside of Pittsburgh PA. A native of Pittsburgh, Jessica attended Edinboro University. In college Jessica led a sexual violence victims advocacy group, and led Students for Obama in 2008. Following a year of service as an Americorps*VISTA, she continued working for candidates championing progressive causes, moving to Fort Collins, Colorado for the 2012 Obama campaign.
After moving back to Pittsburgh to be closer to family, Jessica became an organizer for Planned Parenthood, and eventually became the Public Affairs Director, fighting for reproductive health rights and access in Western PA.
Currently Jessica is the President for the Young Democrats of Allegheny County. She is a columnist for the Pittsburgh Current, writing commentary about social issues, politics and culture and has been featured in Pittsburgh Magazine. She continues to advocate for reproductive rights in various community groups. She was named to The Incline’s list of activists building a better Pittsburgh and was in 2017 the runner-up in the Pittsburgh City Paper’s “Best Activist” award.
