Jimmy will be the first openly gay man to hold a seat in the Puerto Rico legislature


Jimmy Zorrilla is a candidate for the House of Representative of Puerto Rico, Precinct 3 of the Municipality of San Juan (Rio Piedras and Hato Rey South) for the Popular Democratic Party, as knows for his acronym in Spanish, PPD. His agenda is of inclusion and social justice, to attend the university zone, single mothers and their children, turn into an Act the use of Medicinal Cannabis, propose economic growth bills, employment creation, and social and cultural development of the urban area of Rio Piedras and all San Juan.

He is currently a Municipal Legislator of San Juan, and spokesperson of the majority delegation of the Popular Democratic Party. On 2011 he was proposed by former President of the Popular Democratic Party, and friend, Hector Ferrer (RIP) to be Legislator of the Municipality of San Juan in the 2012 elections. In 2016 he revalidated with the Mayor of the Municipality of San Juan, Hon. Carmen Yulín Cruz Soto, for a second term in the Municipal Legislature, in which he is the spokesperson of the majority delegation.

Jimmy is 41 years old. Since his youth he has dabbled with politics as militant of the Popular Democratic Party, with more than 25 years of experience. In 2006 was elected President of Youth of Popular Democratic Party in San Juan, becoming a member of the National Board of said party.

He obtained a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice and Forensic Psychology from the University of Puerto Rico and is currently studying a master’s degree in Government and Public Policy in the Interamerican University of Puerto Rico.
