Biography

John Blair is a native New Mexican and a graduate of Santa Fe high. After a career committed to serving the people of New Mexico, John and his husband Billy are proud to call Santa Fe their home.

John got a humble start in politics as a legislative correspondent for Senator Jeff Bingaman. In other words, he opened the mail. When you start at the bottom, there’s nowhere to go but up. From Senator Bingaman, John learned that real leaders put their heads down and work for the people they serve.

John continued his service by working with then-U.S. Representative Martin Heinrich. John is proud to have played a role in the fight to make healthcare more affordable and accessible, and in Senator Heinrich’s efforts to make it easier for Native Americans to buy homes on tribal lands.

As the Director of Intergovernmental & External Affairs at the U.S. Department of the Interior, John worked for President Barack Obama to make the United States the world leader in combating climate change.

John also served as the New Mexico Deputy Secretary of State for Maggie Toulouse Oliver, where they have been fighting to make it easier for New Mexicans to vote.

When you see that kind of leadership for New Mexico and fight alongside it, you can’t help but continue the tradition. That’s why John will always put New Mexico families first.
