John will be the first openly bisexual man elected to the Colorado General Assembly
Dr. John Ronquillo is an assistant professor at the University of Colorado Denver School of Public Affairs. John researches in the areas of diversity, inclusion and social equity, and is fervently committed to strengthening these areas within the realm of higher education and in public and nonprofit organizations.
John has educated hundreds of public servants in Colorado and beyond, teaching extensively in his school’s Ph.D., Executive MPA, MPA and Bachelors programs, including courses in organizational behavior, social entrepreneurship, cross-sector collaboration, public service leadership and ethics, and public management—and in 2018 was honored with the CU Online Innovator Award for his creative and technological enhancement of his online courses.
John has been active in his community, having served on the Children’s Hospital Colorado Family Advisory Committee, and on the Boards of Directors for the Social Enterprise Alliance-Colorado Chapter, the Arapahoe County Foundation, Inc., and Servicios de La Raza.
The first in his immediate family to attend college, John earned his Ph.D. in public administration and policy from the University of Georgia School of Public and International Affairs, a Master of Public Administration from the Arizona State University School of Public Affairs, and a B.A. cum laude in journalism and mass communication, also at ASU. John is a proud resident and community champion of Aurora, Colorado’s most diverse city.
