Biography

After two four terms on the Fargo Board of Education, Strand was elected to be one of four Fargo City Commissioners in June 2016. In 2020, he was the highest vote getter in his first city reelection bid. This will be his third / final term if elected in June 2024. Generally, Strand has lived in North Dakota the bulk of his life, mostly as a newspaper person, later co-owning North Dakota only alternative newspaper, High Plains Reader, nearly 30 years old. In May 2022, The Advocate magazine named Strand North Dakota’s LGBTQ+ Champion of Pride, one of 50.
