Joshua will be the first openly LGBTQ person elected to the Socorro ISD Board of Trustees
Joshua Carter Guerra is a product of Socorro Independent School District, attending Montwood Middle and Montwood High School. He is currently finishing his degree in Political Science and International Relations at the University of Texas at El Paso.
For over nine years he has been an outspoken activist and advocates in the community, fighting for student initiatives at the community college like tobacco and gun-free campuses, safe zones for the LGBT community and works as the District Director for State Representative Mary Gonzalez.
Joshua has been involved in our community on many levels, from hosting free citizenship clinics, volunteering with unaccompanied minors and as a volunteer with St. Pius Catholic Church. Most recently Joshua founded “Abrigando Fronteras” which helps children living in underserved neighborhoods in El Paso and Ciudad Juarez. The group provides stipends for school, mentorship and has currently helped over 1,000 kids in the area.
