Julie will be an important LGBTQ voice in the Georgia state legislature


Adopted when she was two weeks old, Julie was raised in Lancaster, California, in the Mojave Desert. Her mom, Janet, was a cosmetologist and a small business owner and her dad, Bob, was a union worker at Safeway grocery stores for 35 years.

Julie attended Cal Poly San Luis Obispo on a basketball scholarship and was the first member of her family to graduate from college. Julie moved to Georgia in 1988 to attend Georgia Southern where she attained her Masters.

Julie has been lucky enough to call Saint Simons Island, Georgia, home for the past 20 years. She has been a school counselor at Needwood Middle School, Glynn Middle School and registrar at Glynn Academy. She recently retired as a 30-year educator.

A dedicated educator and community leader, Julie serves on the Selden Park Advisory Board, is a leader of Women’s Voices of Glynn County and is the current Chairwoman of the Democratic Party of Glynn County. She is also the 1st Congressional District Vice Chair of Constituency Groups for the DPG, a state committee member for the Glynn Dems, and Glynn County liaison to Greening Georgia, an environmental caucus of the Democratic Party of GA.

Julie and her wife, Lisa are supporters of 100 Miles, Coastal Coalition for Children, Georgia Equality, Faithworks, and the United Way. Julie’s son, Jordan is a sophomore at Emory University.
