Kim will be the first out queer Black woman to serve on the Rochester City Council!
Kim Smith is a third generation Western New Yorker. Through generations, her family’s core values have been hard work, education and service. Because of the hard work of the generations before her, she was able to prioritize education. She has been a full-time mother, employee and student. It’s not easy, but it can be accomplished.
Kim obtained her Masters in Public Administration from SUNY Brockport College during her 25 years working for the Monroe County Department of Public Health (MCDPH). While at MCDPH, she worked with individuals and families, created county-wide policies and procedures, built an effective county-wide coalition to improve access to care, and helped to build bridges bringing together local government, organizational stakeholders and community members.
