Biography

Robyn Lady has dedicated her life to public education. After a decorated 27-year career in Fairfax County Public Schools, she is ready to continue her lifetime of service by representing Dranesville District on the Fairfax County School Board. Robyn knows Fairfax County Public Schools inside and out as both an education professional and a parent. She began her career in school counseling, working at George C. Marshall High School, Thomas Jefferson High School for Science & Technology, and McLean High School. Most recently Robyn retired from FCPS after spending 15 years serving as the Director of Student Services (DSS) at Chantilly High School, where she collaborated with counselors to provide a comprehensive program of services to address the academic, career, emotional and social development of each student. In addition to her work in Fairfax County Public Schools, Robyn owns a small business that helps students, and their families navigate the complicated and highly competitive college admissions process. Robyn is also a past President of the Potomac & Chesapeake Association for College Admission Counseling (PCACAC) and currently serves on the Board of the 26,000+ member National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC). She was recognized as the Virginia High School Counselor of the Year in 2011 by the PCACAC, and in 2015 was named the Director of Student Services of the Year for Fairfax County by FCPS School Counseling Services. Robyn was also awarded a Rising Star Program Award by NACAC for her partnership with public schools in MD, VA, and DC to develop and implement in-service training for counselors on college admissions. People are the focus of everything Robyn does as an education professional and servant leader. She has worked across diverse constituencies of students, families, staff, and community members and has learned some key lessons: success comes from engaging and listening to people before making decisions; and when people are empowered and supported, they deliver better results. She will take these lessons with her to the Fairfax County School Board. Robyn received her undergraduate degree in psychology from the College of William & Mary, a master’s degree in education from the University of Virginia, and a certificate in School Counseling Leadership and Administration from George Mason University. An avid Washington Capitals, Nationals, and Commanders fan, she lives in Herndon, VA with her wife, Stephanie and enjoys golf, volunteering at the church, and spending time with children and her dog, Macy.
