Lamont will be the only openly LGBTQ man and person of color serving in the Illinois General Assembly.
The son of public servants, Lamont attended Clark Atlanta University where he received his Bachelor’s degree and was the founder of the Young Entrepreneurs Club of the Atlanta University Center. This experience fueled his interest to return home to Chicago where he got his MBA from National Lewis University and started a small business that would allow him to give back to his community. In 2007, Lamont opened an office to provide insurance to the residents of Bronzeville. In 2017, he opened a second office in Humboldt Park. Lamont sits on the Board of Quad Communities Development Corporation, an organization formed in 2003 with the goal of improving the quality of life and economic strength of the south lakefront communities of North Kenwood, Oakland, Douglas and Grand Boulevard.
