Biography

Laura Patch is a candidate for Walnut Creek City Council. She is a climate activist, feminist, disability ally, a queer advocate, and progressive resident of Walnut Creek. She is passionate about establishing Walnut Creek as an innovative city. Local politics is what will change the world. She believes solving water and power issues, justice reform, and economic prosperity begins with cities. Laura dreams of a Walnut Creek that runs and produces clean energy, has a robust emergency response system to help those in crisis, and offers a community where citizens and businesses can enjoy the outdoors and breathable air. Laura is an active member of Walnut Creek and Contra Costa. She serves on the Walnut Creek Transportation Commission and volunteers with the Walnut Creek Community Cleanup Crew, Walnut Creek Downtown, and Sustainable Walnut Creek. Laura is an inaugural board member of the University of San Francisco’s Women in Leadership Program, the External Vice President of Contra Costa Young Democrats, the Secretary of Diablo Valley Democratic Club. She is an elected member of the Democratic Party of Contra Costa County and represents District 4 at CA Democratic Conventions. Her passion is in helping others and serving her community. At UCLA, she was part of the Bruin Belles Service Association, a group dedicated to philanthropy and women’s leadership. After college, Laura served as an AmeriCorps member and helped nonprofits in Walnut Creek, Oakland, and Antioch. After getting a Masters from Georgetown University, she has worked at nonprofits. She currently works at the Sierra Club, where she helps grassroots activists and campaigns develop digital tools to increase their effectiveness. Laura is an expert in digital accessibility and frequently speaks on the topic. She supports a universal design approach to both digital and physical properties. Outside of politics and community service, sings with the Diablo Vista Chorus, the city’s Sweet Adelines International award-winning chorus.
