Biography

Bennett Lawson is a life-long public servant who has spent over a decade serving the people of Chicago’s 44th Ward and Alderman Tom Tunney. Prior to joining the City, Bennett served as District Director for Illinois Senator Carol Ronen. His experience with all levels of government gives him the knowledge and relationships to effectively deliver for his constituents and the people of Chicago.

Lawson oversaw the redevelopment of the Town Hall Police station into a LGBT senior center and the attached LGBT-friendly affordable senior housing. Representing Chicago’s Northalsted and Wrigleyville entertainment areas, Lawson has been active in promoting and supporting small businesses and tourism. Bennett assists with major annual events like Chicago’s LGBT Pride Parade and Northalsted Market Days, and directs all large development projects in the 44th Ward.

Lawson has been involved with numerous campaigns over the years. While president of the Loyola Chicago College Democrats, he joined the campaign school of Jan Schakowsky for Congress. He has been active with the campaigns of Representatives Mike Quigley and Robin Kelly, Illinois House Majority Leader Greg Harris and Mayor Lori Lightfoot.

Bennett and his husband Pedro were married in February, 2020 and are proud new homeowners in Chicago’s Lakeview Community.
