Devon will be the first 18 year old, out LGBTQ+ member on a Community College Board of Education, in Oregon!
Biography
Devon Lawson is a student, policy advocate, and education reformer dedicated to ensuring Lane Community College remains accessible, affordable, and well-governed. As an appointed member of the Lane Community College Bond Oversight Committee, Devon has worked to ensure taxpayer funds are spent transparently and effectively on critical campus projects. He has also been a tireless advocate for student representation, successfully pushing for the creation of a non-voting student representative seat on the McKenzie School Board to give students a voice in their education. Devon has been politically active since the 5th grade, working on 32 political campaigns and testifying on over 200 education-related bills in the Oregon State Legislature. He also co-authored HJR 20 (2023), a bill aimed at strengthening public education in Oregon. His background in grassroots organizing and policy advocacy has prepared him to bring accountability, transparency, and strong leadership to the LCC Board. Devon is running because LCC deserves engaged leadership that prioritizes students and faculty—not dysfunction and backroom deals. His opponent walked out of a critical board meeting, leaving the board deadlocked and unable to function. Devon will bring responsible governance, fight for expanded career and workforce development programs, and advocate for affordability and student support. He believes in a publicly funded, student-focused education system that provides real opportunities for all. If elected, Devon will fight for affordable education, stronger workforce programs, and transparent leadership that puts students and educators first.
