Biography
Yoshiko Grace Matsui has lived in the North Hill neighborhood of Des Moines for nearly 16 years. She was elected in 2015 as a Commissioner for Water District #54, which serves Des Moines and part of Normandy Park. She was nominated by King County Council President and Des Moines resident Dave Upthegrove to serve on the Conservation Futures Advisory Committee, which aims to preserve open green spaces in King for parks, recreation, and farming. Yoshiko has experience in municipal government as a staff member with the City of Seattle for 10 years, first as a Recruiter and then as an administrator for entry/promotional testing for the Police & Fire Departments. Additional volunteer experience includes the Des Moines Area Food Bank, organizing the Des Moines community blood drive in 2022, and serving on the boards of the Waterfront Farmers Market and Legacy Foundation. Yoshiko graduated from Western Washington University in 1999 with a BA degree in American Cultural Studies and completed a Master’s in Education at WWU in 2000.
