Matthew will be the first out LGBTQ+ person ever elected to statewide office in the South!
Georgia State Representative Matthew Wilson is a consumer rights champion and outspoken advocate for working families. Representing DeKalb and Fulton counties in the Georgia House, he has led progressive fights to end partisan gerrymandering, ensure ethics in government, stem the tide of gun violence, and ban the harmful practice of conversion therapy.
Matthew was raised in a working-class family from Griffin, Georgia. His dad was physically disabled on the job when Matthew and his sister were just in kindergarten. His mom worked night shifts at the local hospital to provide for their family.
Thanks to the support of his neighbors and the HOPE Scholarship, he graduated from the University of Georgia with both his undergraduate and law degrees. After college, Matthew taught math and science to middle schoolers in a low-income community. After returning to UGA for law school, Matthew opened his own law practice and is currently recognized as one of Georgia’s top trial lawyers under 40.
Matthew lives in Brookhaven with his fiancé, Robert.
