Merisa will be the first openly LGBTQ woman elected to the Gahanna City Council
Originally from Canton, Ohio, Merisa attended the University of Cincinnati where she earned a BA with departmental honors in Pol. Sci. with a Certificate in International Human Rights. In 2009, she graduated from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland with a JD, cum laude. Merisa then established her law practice in Ohio where she has built a thriving law practice, focusing on representing all clients competently, compassionately, and proactively.
In 2014, Merisa was appointed as a Commissioner for the City of Columbus’ Community Relations Commission. Her professional memberships include the Ohio State Bar Association (LGBT Diversity & Inclusion Conference Committee 2014-2018), the Columbus Bar Association (LGBT Committee Co-Chair 2013-2015; Family Law Committee), and The National LGBT Bar Assoc. and Family Law Institute.
In 2013, Merisa co-founded Bi Local, affiliated with Equality Ohio, to advocate for visibility for the bisexual/pansexual/queer community of Central Ohio. In August 2015, Merisa was a panelist at the National LGBT Bar’s Lavender Law, where she presented on representing bisexual clients at the Conference’s inaugural workshop dedicated to bisexual legal issues.
In Gahanna, Merisa is a member of the Gahanna Moms Network, Chamber of Commerce, The Gahanna Foundation, and has served on various city commissions.
Merisa, her paramedic husband, Curtis, and their sweet toddler Everett, enjoy Gahanna’s beautiful parks and friendly community.
