Biography

Norby Belz, PhD, is a small business owner, community leader, and educator. He and his husband chose Fort Lauderdale as their home because of its diverse, deep-rooted community. Now, Norby is running for District 1 City Commissioner to be a voice for the community and ensure the city remains a place where all residents enjoy a high quality of life.

Throughout his career, Norby has helped people and businesses thrive. As Vice President of a small business association, representing nearly 100 local businesses and property owners, he has worked to revitalize his neighborhood and foster business growth. As a former professor and department chair with extensive experience in rural health and policy, Norby is well-versed at navigating bureaucratic systems to achieve results. He is committed to protecting Fort Lauderdale’s quality of life by supporting small businesses, enhancing public safety, combating homelessness, preserving the environment and waterways, and promoting responsible redevelopment to ensure a thriving, sustainable future for the city.
