Ryan will be the third openly LGBTQ legislator currently serving in Missouri.
Ryan’s grandfather, a retired trooper with the Missouri State Highway Patrol, often reminded him that it is every American’s duty to give back to their community through public service. It is this drive to help make Missouri communities a better place to live and work that led Ryan to run for the Missouri State Senate. From growing up in his family’s small business to his professional career working for Congressman Ike Skelton, the U.S. State Department, Congressman Russ Carnahan, and the Human Rights Campaign, he learned firsthand the principles that guide his everyday life: inclusion, respect, fairness, integrity, and responsibility. In the Missouri State Senate, Ryan will stand with working families, fight for access to affordable healthcare, ensure that public education is fully funded, and will be a voice for the LGBT community. He firmly believes in building people up, strengthening communities, and providing opportunity for all Missourians. Ryan received his undergraduate degree from Westminster College and a master’s degree from American University’s School of International Service. He currently resides in Rolla, Missouri.
