Ryan was the first openly gay elected official in Malden
Ryan O’Malley is running for re-election to the City Council in Malden, Massachusetts representing Ward Four. Ryan’s ward includes the central business district where he is partnering with community groups such as Malden Arts on a public art campaign to foster the creative economy in order to revitalize Malden Center.
As Malden’s first openly gay elected official, Ryan is proud to have participated in the community’s first Pride flag raising ceremony in 2018 at Malden High School – the most diverse high school in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
Ryan understands the interconnectedness of identity and is dedicated to fighting for and fighting with underrepresented communities whose civil liberties are under attack.
Ryan is a graduate of Malden High School and holds a B.A. in Classics from the College of the Holy Cross.
