Sandra is an LGBTQ leader on the local level in northeast Ohio
Sandra Kurt has served as Clerk of Courts since January 2016 and is running to continue her service to residents of Summit County. Under Sandra’s direction, the Legal Office instituted electronic filing and modernized Accounting in all divisions. These innovations allow customers to work from their office or home and reduce operating costs in the Clerk’s office. Sandra added weekend and evening hours to the Title Offices to make it easier for residents to process their auto and boat titles and to get their Passports. Because of Sandra’s concern about the impact of the opiate crisis in Summit County, she offers drug disposal bags for free at all Clerk of Courts locations.
Prior to becoming Clerk of Courts, Sandra served five years as an At-Large Councilwoman on Summit County Council and before that, Sandra served on Akron City Council as the Ward 8 Councilperson. When Sandra ran for City Council in 2009, she was the first openly LGBTQ person to ever run for office in Summit County.
Prior to politics, Sandra had a full and rewarding career wielding her Industrial Engineering expertise at a global manufacturing company headquartered in Akron.
Sandra was awarded a certificate of completion for the Senior Executives in State and Local Government program, Harvard University, John F. Kennedy School of Government, Executive Education in June of 2015.
Sandra is a lifetime member of the NAACP. Sandra served on the Akron Pride Festival committee since its inception in 2017.
