Biography

Sam Schoenburg is a lawyer who lives with his husband, Nigel, in Chicago’s Lakeview neighborhood. After organizing on President Obama’s campaign and graduating from Yale, Sam went to NYU Law School, where he sought to understand why the criminal legal system too often leads to injustice and racial disparity. In Chicago, Sam put his convictions into action by organizing with the grassroots coalition that helped establish the new District Council position. As Councilor, Sam will ensure the District Council does what it was intended to do by putting the community’s voice first in public safety and policing. And as a resident of a mainstay neighborhood of Chicago’s gay community, Sam is committed to elevating the public safety concerns of LGBTQ people in his Police District, and throughout Chicago.
