Shelley will be one of just two LGBTQ women on the Houston City Council
Shelley Kennedy is a native Houstonian with a record of community activism, public service and political involvement. Shelley has been successful in the private sector and has used her experience and relationships to help others. Shelley is a fierce advocate who seeks to improve the lives of those around her.
Although Shelley has not previously sought political office, she has worked in politics and on political campaigns since the 1990s. Shelley is running for City Council in District C, where she has lived for more than 20 years, because she cares about her community and the city that has blessed her with so much.
Shelley is an entrepreneur who runs a successful health care consulting and wellness company. She brings a focus on health and wellness to everything she does. Her history of community service goes back decades, and she has devoted countless time and energy to numerous causes, charities and organizations.
In 2018, Shelley received a proclamation from Mayor Sylvester Turner recognizing her heroism for pulling an accident victim from a burning car moments before the car exploded. Shelley lives in the Garden Oaks neighborhood with her wife, Debra, with whom she has four daughters and four granddaughters.
