Tara will be the first openly LGBTQ district court judge in Clark County history
Tara Clark Newberry is a judicial candidate for District Court Department 21 in Clark County Nevada. She is one of the few attorneys in Las Vegas with law enforcement, mediator and civil trial experience. She worked as a police officer to improve the quality of life for all residents. As an Attorney, she has practiced law with the same passion and conviction, dedicating her life to helping others and creating solutions. She is a public servant at heart, an exceptional trial lawyer, an experienced mediator, and will bring greatly needed diversity to the bench in Clark County, Nevada. She was the first “out” police recruit in the history of the Cincinnati Police Department. She was a liaison and taught diversity training at the Academy in hopes of improving the quality of police service and LGBTQ community relations. As an attorney, she started the LGBT Section of the State Bar of Nevada and served as its chair for two years, ensuring LGBTQ attorneys were represented and issues the community was facing brought to the attention of the state bar. Tara has served as a neutral for over a decade as a court-appointed mediator and private arbitrator in matters relating to real estate, bankruptcy, and consumer rights. She has tried numerous cases, won many appeals, and is an accomplished advocate. She will be the first open lesbian to take the bench in Clark County and given her diversity in life experience and in the practice of law, she will be an asset to the judiciary.
