Ty is the only openly LGBTQ member of the Vancouver City Council
Ty Stober is running for reelection to the Vancouver, Washington City Council.
Since being elected to Council in 2015, Ty has championed efforts to increase the City’s supply of affordable housing and protect the dignity of its homeless residents. Inclusion of underrepresented populations is a constant theme in his advocacy and action on Council. Ty evaluates land use planning and development decisions based on how much they add to or decrease from burdens placed on residents. His Council assignments include chairing the Police and Fire Pension boards and serving on the boards of the public transportation agency, the homeless agency, and the gang prevention task force. Outside of Council, he has been mentoring a grade school student for four years as a lunch buddy, serves on the board of a youth co-occurring addiction and mental health treatment facility, and has become a strong advocate for early childhood education. Ty was a 2017 David Bohnett Leaders Fellow and attended Senior Executives in State and Local Government program at the Harvard Kennedy School.
Stober has a background in sales, marketing, product development and program management. He earned his MBA at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and his BA at the University of Puget Sound.
