Biography
Tyler Hughes has been advocating for Southwest Virginians in many capacities for nearly a decade. A community leader, musician, educator, and town councilman for Big Stone Gap, Virginia, he strives to be a strong voice for working class individuals and small businesses. The grandson of a coal miner and child of a small business owner, Hughes returned to the mountains after college to help the local economy recover from the collapse of the coal industry. Upon first being elected, he began advocating for investments in local art projects and downtown revitalization programs. He believes in real Southwest Virginia values-working hard, honesty, dedication, and loving all people regardless of our differences. He is committed to ensuring that every child in Big Stone Gap has a safe, healthy community where they can grown to their fullest potential.
