Jose will be the only out LGBTQ member of the Coral Gables City Council!
Jose Valdes-Fauli, a resident of Miami Dade County since 1960, is proud to call Coral Gables home. Along with his family, Jose fled Fidel Castro’s Cuba to start their lives in the United States. He graduated from Florida International University (FIU) and embarked on a professional career in banking, serving as President and CEO of four banks during his long career. In addition to his work in the financial sector, Jose is a strong supporter of not-for-profit agencies, and he is currently the Vice-Chair of the Coral Gables Museum’s Board of Directors. He has served on several organizations’ governing bodies, including Mercy Hospital, Art in Public Places, the Cultural Affairs Council, and Florida International University; he was President of both the Florida Grand Opera and the Bass Museum. Still, one of his proudest achievements was serving as one of the original Board Members of Health Crisis Network to establish AIDS services in the early 1980s. He resides in Coral Gables with his partner of 25 years, Shed Boren, a social worker and professor at FIU.
