Veronica will be the first out transgender person re-elected in Indiana!
Biography
Veronica Pejril began her first year of service representing the third ward on Greencastle’s City Council in January 2020, becoming Indiana’s first openly trans elected official. She currently serves on the City’s Budget Committee, as well as the Human Relations and Sustainability commissions. She is part of the Putnam County Housing Stability Committee and 100 Women Who Care of Putnam County.
Veronica serves as an officer on the Board of Directors for Indiana Youth Group, an organization that works to ensure positive outcomes for LGBTQ+ Hoosier youth. An outspoken advocate for the rights of gender-diverse youth, Veronica’s community activism has been featured by regional media, including the Indianapolis Star and regional television outlets.
In the political sphere, Veronica serves as Secretary for the Indiana Stonewall Democrats caucus. In 2020, she was one of 35 trans and gender non-conforming delegates to the Democratic National Convention, opening the Pledge of Allegiance for the 2nd day’s program.
An alumna of Princeton’s Graduate School, Pejril is an assistant professor in DePauw University’s School of Music, where she teaches courses in music technology and provides leadership for the university’s instructional technology team. Veronica serves on the Board of Trustees for BTGALA, Princeton’s Bisexual, Transgender, Gay and Lesbian Alumni Association. Veronica is a proud parent of two Purdue graduates and a 17-year resident of Greencastle.
