Game Changer

Victor will be New Mexico's first LGBTQ member of Congress!

Biography

Victor Reyes has been a dedicated fighter for New Mexico families as a community organizer, environmental advocate, progressive leader, and as a top aide to Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham.

His mother was a longtime volunteer at public schools and an advocate for students. Growing up, Victor often spent more time in community meetings than he did on playgrounds. His mother would tell him – “You’ve got to be a voice for people who feel they don’t have the words or the power themselves.”

Victor took that to heart, and it’s why he’s always worked to make a real difference for people and be a strong voice for progressive public policy. That’s why New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham tapped him to serve as a senior aide in her administration as her Legislative Director.

He’s been at the forefront of the state’s efforts to support educators, curb gun violence, build New Mexico’s economy, and protect our air, land and water. His leadership and vision helped create two of the most productive legislative sessions in history.

Victor is also a longtime advocate and national leader on reproductive freedom and justice. He serves as the Board Chair of Catholics for Choice, has helped defeat anti-abortion legislation, and has worked alongside a diverse coalition of women, families, and community organizations to repeal an antiquated law that would ban abortions in our state.

If elected, Victor would be the first LGBTQ person to represent New Mexico in Congress.
